Atlántico are Britain's leading exponents of Cumbia, the rootsy music most closely associated with Colombia. This dynamic 8-piece band includes percussionists, accordion and a full horn section. Atlántico are a mix of Colombian, Venezuelan and UK residents, headed by vocalist Antonio Porras, and have performed with many distinguished Colombian and British musicians from jazz, rock, soul, African, Klezmer and Celtic backgrounds.
Atlántico’s wellspring is the music of the golden age of Cumbia, in the mid-1900's, when the big bands of Lucho Bermudez and Clímaco Sarmiento thrilled audiences with the loping rhythms of the Porro. But Atlántico bring high energy enthusiasm to ALL varieties of the sensuous “Música Tropical” with which Colombia’s Atlantic coast pulses.
Whether they’re playing cumbia, vallenato, salsa, merengue, or mambo, you will not be able to resist dancing !
